Abstract:
Two experimental vacuum switch tubes were constructed and evaluated. Successive experimental models of the convergent beam type of tube have shown improved performance and the effects of secondary electron emission from the collector obscuring the interpretation of data has been eliminated. Data to date indicate that a convergent beam of the desired characteristics will require a non-symmetric structure. Several new gas discharge tubes were constructed to evaluate the different effects of current density and tube length. Measurements with a biasing magnetic field showed that tube impedance can become high and noise becomes a problem at low currents andor applied voltages. Magnetic bias switching between two anodes in the tube is also being investigated. Author
