Concentrations of ATP, ADP, AMP, arginine-P, and Pi in flight muscle of the blowfly Phormia regina were measured concurrently after flight periods ranging from 5 sec to 1 hr. At the onset of contraction, ATP and arginine-P concentrations decreased, whereas those of ADP, Pi, and especially AMP, increased. The pattern of changes in these phosphates agrees with the postulated mechanism of glycolytic regulation at the P-fructokinase step. Author
