The Coriolis force may be used to determine true North. Following general principles and accuracy considerations, mechanical devices are discussed. These include a modified Foucault pendulum, vibrating masses, the Foucault directional gyroscope, and a cross-shaped vibrator. The posibility of using the human ear as a sensitive detector is also suggested. Devices based on fluid motion, as well as some other devices described in the literature, are discussed. Author
