Abstract:

This report contains comparisons of experimentally measured and theoretically calculated temperature distributions in honeycomb structural panels filled with a low diffusivity foam. The theoretical method involves the use of the three-dimensional Thermal Analyzer computer program, a product of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. The experimental procedure consists of subjecting the composite honeycomb panel to heat fluxes of 1000 to 3250 wattsfoot2 and recording the temperature responses. The data presented herein indicate that the three-dimensional theoretical method is effective in predicting the temperature distributions in a composite panel. For a special case considered, the simpler flat- plate, finite-difference method gave rather inaccurate temperature predictions at the later test times. Author-PL
