Abstract:

Procurements resulting from initial provisioning require considerable expenditure of scarce funds. Provisioning, therefore, must receive high level attention if these already scarce funds are to be most efficiently utilized. Contained herein is a review of the approach to initial provisioning used by the Bureau of Naval Weapons, the Bureau of Ships and the Inventory Control Points. Allied with this overview is a discussion of those principles that must enter into the consideration of any part selection during the provisioning process and their application in todays procedures.
