Abstract:

The spinel ferrite formulation referred to in the 3rd quarterly report was further experimented with. Magnetic measurements with respect to temperature and A.C. demagnetizing fields were conducted as well as shock and vibration measurements. This included, for the first time under this contract, measurements of the magnetic quality factor Q with respect to temperature and showed its T.C. Temp. Coeff. to be 4700 PPMdegree C a value somewhat higher than expected. In addition, atmosphere experiments were conducted during the sintering of the ferrites. These results have indicated that an optimum oxygen to nitrogen ratio exists, but this ratio will primarily depend upon what the iron content is of a given material. Also small amounts of cation additions were made into the basic composition as an attempt to further reduce the T.C. The results obtained from these experiments, however, are not complete enough to draw any definite conclusions. Author
