Approximate solutions for the compressible laminar wake which are valid within the entire wake region extending from the rear stagnation point of a slender body are presented for two-dimensional and axially symmetric flows. The solutions are obtained from the linearized momentum and energy equations, neglecting streamwise pressure gradient. These equations are reduced to the form of the diffusion equations. The results are applicable to wakes from slender bodies which are very thick when compared to the transverse dimension of the body. In particular, the result for the axially symmetric case is directly applicable to the wake from a long slender circular rod immersed in a low Reynolds number, supersonic stream. The solution is applied to the simplified case of an axially symmetric flow with the prandtl number equal to one and centerline velocity small compared to free stream velocity. Author
