The catapult was designed to launch F-104G aircraft for the Federal Republic of Germanys Short Airfield for Tactical Support SATS. A suitable test site was built and the catapult was installed and tested. One hundred launchings were performed to develop and demonstrate aircraftcatapult compatibility, determine catapult performance, and evaluate catapult component reliability. Five aircraft gross-weight conditions between 18,500 and 28,000 pounds were tested. Thirty-four of the launchings were at end speeds greater than 200 knots. All launchings were made with the aircraft at combat rated thrust. The TCE1-FRG catapult, with some necessary modifications, was found to be capable of successfully launching all gross weights of the F-104G aircraft under the ambient conditions experienced during the test program sea level and from 22 to 61 F.
