This evaluation was conducted to determine the ability of personnel trained in the Air Training Command ATC Ground Radio Operator Course to perform the duties of their specialty. Evaluation sites included a net control station NCS, two satellite stations, and one mobile support squadron MSS. Apprentices were capable of 5-skill-level operation at satellite stations after one to two months on the job, but they experienced confusion in NCS air-ground operations because of the necessity for learning Strategic Air Command SAC procedures and developing proficiency in the standard Air Force Communications Service AFCS procedures simultaneously. All organizations recommended training in use of the voice call sign list VCSL, when using authentication procedures, and physical compromise and practice in using symbols when taking weather messages. The NCS assignment also required knowledge of antenna types and the MSS knowledge of mobile van operation. Author
