CHECK-READING ACCURACY AS A FUNCTION OF AN EXTENDED-POINTER DIAL DISPLAY.

Three simulated dial displays were compared in a check-reading task. An extended-pointer dial display was compared with an aligned and an extended-line dial display. The three dial displays were presented to 34 subjects who were asked to indicate whether or not the display contained a deviant pointer, and, if so, to locate the deviant pointer. The data indicate that subjects performed significantly better with the extended-pointer display than with either the aligned or the extended-line display. Location within a display was found to be an important determinant of the number of deviant pointers detected. Author
