Abstract:

This is the third report published in response to Work Assignment No. 35-23 and deals with various types of research on the physicomechanical properties of rocks. It consists of 1 detailed reviews of two monographs published by two institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, 2 a summary of each of the papers published in a collection of articles issued by the USSR Academy of Sciences Mining Institute, and 3 two detailed abstracts of papers published in 1963 in the journal Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR. In addition, summaries of papers delivered at a conference held in Moscow from 24 January to 5 February 1963, describing recent Soviet work carried out in support of the Moho project and Soviet plans for future research in this field, are presented.
