Abstract:
The design of the Lincoln Experimental Terminal LET includes a digital signal processing system which is compatible with both dispersive and non-dispersive satellite communications media. It provides three data rates 9600 bits sec, to accommodate a voice-excited vocoder with telephone quality inputs 4800 bitssec, to accommodate a pitch-excited vocoder with dynamic microphone input and 200 bitssec for teletype only. Both of the speech rates allow two multiplexed teletype channels. The basic modulation system combines frequency-hopped signals with sequential encoding and decoding. Antenna pointing, range and Doppler predictions, and data multiplexing and demultiplexing are performed using a Univac 1218 digital computer. Author
