Abstract:

This report describes development of a low-level, low-frequency photocell amplifier PCA having either analog, broad-band FM carrier, or IRIG FM carrier output. A galvanometer with a high natural frequency is used in the input circuit for increased ruggedness. Signal frequencies up to 100 cps may be amplified. The amplifier is capable of detecting a signal of 1.25 x 10 to the minus 18 w in the bandpass from 0.01 to 5 cps. Power requirements is less than 1.7 w. Signal common-mode rejection is greater than 140 db, and the noise introduced by power-supply variations is negligible. The voltage gain of the PCA with analog output is 350K. The PCA using broad-band FM output in combination with the FM discriminator provides the unique combination of high voltage gain 1 x 10 to the 6 and high dynamic range 69 db. Floating input, output, and power-supply connections are features of the amplifier. Author
