Abstract:

It was shown how the function gamma n and in principle the volume dependence of the low-frequency expansion can be derived from thermodynamic measurements. The results obtained for NaCl and KCl are summarized and are in general agreement with the predictions of a simple ionic model. At low temperatures the use of the analysis is limited by the accuracy of the thermal expansion measurements. With present accuracy, gamma n is known to within 2 or 3 only for -2n0, where it is determined chiefly by measurements in the intermediate range of temperature. Author
