Abstract:

Proof is presented for a correspondence principle appropriate to the linearized theory of wave propagation through anisotropic and inhomogeneous viscoelastic solids. This prinicple may be stated roughly as follows The speed of propagation of an acceleration wave through a viscoelastic solid of a given density and the relaxation tensor is identical to the speed of propagation of the same wave through an elastic solid of the same density and the elasticity tensor.
