One of the most versatile methods for generation of concentration gradients for column chromatography is that employed in the gradient mixers of Peterson. These mixers consist of a number of fixed chambers connected in series and equipped with stirrers as solution flows from the outlet, a gradient is generated which, depending on the initial concentrations of the solutions in the chambers, can be of many forms. These mixers are quite difficult to construct moreover, for some purposes, particularly analytical chromatography, mixers with chambers of fixed sizes and in fixed numbers are inconvenient. This report describes a mixer which is comparatively easy to construct and rearrange.
