Abstract:
The purpose of this project was to perform a development test of the ANDSQ-5 Scoring Set formerly the AA24D-5 XI-3 Scoring System. Ground firings of radioactively tagged 20mm ammunition were conducted to determine the performance characteristics of the set. Also, problems associated with testing radioactive scorers were noted. It was concluded that the scorer, as tested, performed well when the miss distance was 20 ft or less. It was also concluded that radioactive tagging of the projectiles externally created many decontamination problems. It is recommended in the report that, in future tests of this type, some method of placing the radioactive tags inside the projectiles be investigated. Author
