Abstract:
The available data on the resistivity due to dislocations in a number of metals are presented taking account where possible of the considerable deviations from Matthiessens Rule which occur between 4.2 K and 80 K. At present scattering due to lattice dilatation and scattering due to stacking faults both seem incapable of explaining the observations. By comparing the deformation of the lattice round a dislocation with the deformation due to thermal vibrations, a relation between dislocation resistivity and ideal resistivity is obtained which appears to account fairly well for the relative magnitude of the dislocation resistivities measured in different metals.
