An experimental program was prepared for the first years work, which consists of Phase 1, the evaluation of standard sealed cells. Phase 2, the study of recombination rea.tions, and Phase 3, the study of cell components. Sixteen sealed Zn-AgO cells were built for Phase 1 and have completed formation cycles. Tests were run on sealed Zn-AgO cells to determine pressure increase during discharged stand. It was found that an externally shorted cell would develop 40-50 psig after 3 days stand at RT. Capacity maintenance and pressure buildup on charged stand at 160 F were determined and found to be within acceptable limits. Three sample materials were received and subjected to various evaluation tests to determine their suitability as separators. Author
