The experimental investigation of plastic anisotropy in titanium alloys was continued. Work was also done on the development of plastic anisotropy by control of growth textures in cast material and by introduction of mechanically aligned discontinuities in an otherwise uniform matrix. The study of the 5 Al2.5 Sn alloy was extended to higher temperatures. Flow stress and strain-rate sensitivity were determined. A high degree of plastic anisotropy was produced in a sheet of 4340 steel by drilling fine holes 0.0625-in. diameter in a close-packed array 0.071-in. between centers through the thickness and then filling the holes with soft solder.
