Abstract:

Preliminary work on the thermal decomposition of dibenzenechromium o has suggested that chromium metal can be obtained which is free of contami nation from carbon. However, the formation of chromium films makes it difficult to remove from glass substrates. Some recent experiments on the deposition of chromium on tantalum sheet have been unsuccessful but are continuing. All experiments to prepare pure organoeuropium compounds have so far been unsuccessful. These included attempts to prepare the tri-cyclopentadienyl, methylcyclopentadienyl, phenyl, mesityl, methyl and pentafluorophenyl derivatives. While tricyclopentadienyl samarium can be prepared, attempts at the preparation of trimesityl and tripentafluorophenyl samarium were not successful. An impure sample of the latter compound was decomposed under vacuum to give a carbon containing residue. Author
