The study and investigation of modulation and of information retrieval has been conducted in respect to techniques and devices for the acquisition of data from animals and their environments. Such data will be valuable in the study of the special behavior characteristics of certain animals in respect to their environment. The program encompassed the total problem of sensing and telemetry. Telemetry is the transfer of information t the receiving location. Miniaturization and weight of instrumentation were important considerations in the investigation. Experimental circuits and devices were designed and constructed to aid in the practical study and evaluation of techniques and devices, which would be compatible with the needs of miniaturized instrumentation. Circuits for these test models have also been made a part of this report. An appendix is included which describes the instrumentation developments that are related to this phase of the contract. The development of a small lightweight radio beacon for birds is described, and a tone modulation system for this unit is discussed. The development of a deepwater, submersible, aquatic transmitter is also described. Author
