Abstract:

With the installation of pigmented edge B-58 pilot enclosure windshields, the windshield replacement rate due to interlayer degradation decreased considerably. The use of pigmented edge glass was effective on AC 57 and on. Airplanes No. 31 and 33, however, were retrofitted with new glass in order to conduct an inservice test. Data obtained so far show that the glass replacement rate is higher on AC 57 and on than on AC 31 and 33. This indicated that the first pigmented windshields received may have been better than the windshields later developed for production use. This test was conducted to establish a quality comparison between windshields now received and previously tested pigmented windshields. Author
