The present program is directed to the study of the stress-corrosion behavior of 18-nickel maraging steel with emphasis on compositional variation, effect of environmental temperature, and study of electropotential changes. It is intended to first, determine the extent of the stress-corrosion problem in 18-nickel maraging steel by testing four additional heats second, compare the susceptibility of maraging steel with conventional ultra-high-strength steels and, third, to investigate further, by electropotential methods, the cause of failure of 18-nickel maraging steel.
