Abstract:

The wave drag of the ground effect machine has been treated in summary fashion by Crewe and Eggington. The mathematical theory of twodimensional wave drag is presented in detail, adapted from the classical wave theory formulated by Lord Rayleigh and others, as presented by Lamb Hydrodynamics, 6th ed., Cambridge Univ. Press, 1932. Lambs work offers the detailed analysis that is needed to furnish a reliable basis for the treatment of related hydrodynamic problems, and has been used as a basis for this discussion. Relations for the three-dimensional wave drag of a ground effect machine will be established by adapting certain equations for the drag of planing surfaces. Author
