Abstract:

An analysis of liquid rocket propulsion systems was undertaken to determine the essential parameters related to this subsystem which must be sensed, displayed, recorded, or telemetered for adequate display and control during advanced aerospacecraft earth-orbital missions. A system capable of orbiting an integrated four-man crew station was selected for analysis. Investigation included engine performance monitoring, malfunction detection, and compensational control during missions involving advanced orbital plane-change maneuvers, rendezvous, and docking with other spacecraft. Based on this analysis, determinations were made of the probability and consequences of individual malfunction occurrences. Parameters were specified for recording, telemetering, and display, and a control-display panel and console were designed to fulfill the resulting control-display requirements.
