Abstract:

A roller flexer that makes it possible to cyclically starin sheets with a minimum amount of bowing in the work rolls has been built. Using this device, the transition temperature of molybdenum base alloys was lowered 60 to 100 F. Finding the optimum conditions for effecting the maximum ductility improvement in these materials will require a considerable amount of additional study. A singel attempt to improve the properties of tungsten by flexing has not been successful. This is thought not to be a characteristic of the material, but a result of incomplete understanding of the flexing process. Author
