Abstract:

Design of filament wound structures is discussed in relation to material selection, winding technique, quality control, process control and test methods. The design is illustrated by specific example of a rocket motor chamber. Buckling, which has become more critical with higher strength lighter weight chambers, is analyzed together with other important engineering properties of the glass filament reinforced composite.
