Abstract:

An unsealed cavity within the aircraft at the cargo door to house the primary equipment and provide the desired aperture for targe viewing is described. By placing the cavity at the cargo door, no major stress-carrying structural members would be cut. By having the cavity within the airframe, aircraft control, stability, and performance changes will not be encountered. To provide the accuracies desired for the SKYSCRAPER System, it is necessary to maintain temperature and air-flow control within the cavity. This report covers all temperature and flow-control studies conducted during the design of the SKYSCRAPER System. The studies include a theoretical analysis supported by wind tunnel tests of a 58 scale model of the cavity. Author
