Abstract:

The compiler is a unified program. The entire program is in core while a JOVIAL program is being processed. A JOVIAL program is processed one statement or declaration at a time--that is, the statement is read, analysed, and binary instructions are generated. Since an intermediate language IL is produced during the analyses, the compiler can be divided into the part that produces IL The Generator, the part that processes the IL The Translator and procedures used by each. Some procedures are used exclusively by the generator or by the translator, and some are used by both. Author
