Abstract:
Research concerned a study of radiation effects on microwave voltage-tunable magnetrons and traveling-wave tubes. The results of the literature search on copper, titanium, forsterite ceramics, magnetic materials, thoriated tungsten, insulators, cables, connectors, and electron vacuum tubes are discussed. Descriptions of the monitoring techniques and experimental procedures used for voltage-tunable magnetron parameters during a pulse of nuclear radiation are included. The effects of pulsed nuclear radiation on parameters of the Z-5312 VTM package operating in air and in nitrogen are compared. Radiation effects on the Z-5337 bowl-magnet VTM package and the Z-5428 VTM package are also discussed. A comparison of the construction for the three types of VTM packages in relation to their behavior in a pulsed radiation environment is included. Author
