Abstract:

The effect of the periodic water waves on the base pressures and lift of the ground effect machine are presented. Because of the necessity of using relatively low air flow rates to approximate prototype conditions, and because of the limited sensitivity of the lift force meters, data on the lift refer largely to the results of integrated base plate pressure measurements. The lift and bending moment transducers were used essentially for check purposes. Tests were made with both the -40 degree and -60 degree modified nozzles. The -60 degree nozzle had a series of 336 diameter copper tubes added to measure the pressures just inside the nozzle pressure taps were also located in the base plate of the model. Author
