Since tracking of rockets using radar systems demands very expensive equipment, the need has arisen for a simpler and more inexpensive tracking system when working with small rockets for research purposes. A tracking system based upon doppler shift on the modulating frequency of an AM-wave is described. Calculations based upon the time-marked doppler data give the trajectories for well-behaved rockets with a sufficient degree of accuracy. Up to the present, the equipment has been used for tracking of three Nike-Cajun rockets. The method of trajectory calculations is given, and calculation of an actual trajectory is performed. Author
