An ultrasonic agitator, capable of introducing up to 250 watts of power to the solidifying interface of a melt at 900 C or above has been designed and constructed. The equipment, which utilizes a piezoelectric transducer, has been used to determine the effect of frequency, amplitude and rate of solidification on the crystallization of N-type PbTe. Details of the experimental equipment are given along with an account of the results obtained for N-type PbTe. Author
