A redox closed cycle fuel cell system in which regeneration of cell feed materials is carried out by high energy nuclear radiation is described. Electric output efficiencies of up to 3 are predicted based on absorbed radiation in an acidified deoxygenated aqueous ferrous sulfate solution. A 5-watt prototype fuel cell unit was designed and constructed utilizing radiation reaction products of hydrogen ferric ion enriched ferrous sulfate electrolyte. Radiation chemistry, electrochemistry and prototype engineering design parameters are discussed. Author
