Abstract:

A presentation is given of the results of an initial study of the problems arising in connection with transmission through a curved, grounded plasma layer. The method of analysis may also be applied to scattering problems. Extensive studies have been presented in the literature which consider flat layers of plasma covering a source on a ground plane of infinite extent. These represent a first approximation to radio problems of reentry vehicles. Considered is a conducting cylindrical surface, of large radius of curvature, covered by a uniform plasma layer and excited by a magnetic line source located on the conducting surface. The plasma layer is treated as a dielectric medium having an index of refraction which may be complex and may have a magnitude less than unity. Author
