Abstract:

Minor improvements in the automatic impedance computing and plotting equipment have been made. A direct-current heater supply and drive-level attenuators are added features. Impedance measurements have been made on a water-filled elbow and on a globe valve in several degrees on closure. Impedance curves for both these piping elements are significantly different from the curve for a straight water column. The valve exhibits a very high low-frequency impedance when closed the impedance value at 20 cps decreases by 20 dB when the valve is opened only a quarter turn. Further impedance measurements at the discharge port of a submarine trim pump showed that results were independent of rotor position and conditions at the suction port. Author
