Abstract:

A macroscopic, non-viscous theory is used to study the transient behavior of a neutral ion plasma. Integral transform techniques are introduced to obtain closed-form solutions. The method is applied to two well-known problems to check its validity. The problem of a neutral ion stream flowing down the axis of a magnetic dipole field is then investigated with special emphasis on the transient behavior of the perturbation induced in the dipole.
