The crystal structure of the anhydrous 11 complex of copper nitrate with nitromethane has now been completed, and the report gives a full description of the structure. The copper atoms exhibit the more unusual 5-coordination. Each copper atom is surrounded by a square plane of oxygen atoms, each from different nitrate groups one oxygen atom from a nitromethane molecule lies on the axis of this plane, giving squarepyramidal configuration for each copper atom. The nitrate groups form bridges linking successive pyramids to form infinite sheets. Knowledge on two other structures has been advanced, but final structures have not yet been confirmed. Author
