Abstract:

An administrative report is presented of the initial effort to fabricate a sealed monochrome light valve projector and thereby demonstrate unique tube technologies, materials, and process that allow for reliable light valve systems. Mdern military data processing and display requirements continually emphasize the critical need for fast, accurate, and easily understood visual representations of data. To fill that requirement, the General Electric Company has under development versatile display systems that are capable of providing color or monochrome presentations in real time. Light valve display systems combine the instantaneous display features of a cathode-ray tube with the light efficiency of an intermediate film projector. Brightness, color, and size can be varied to fit a particular display situation. Author
