A method originally due to E. F. Ghiron for calculating the frequency spectrum of a nonlinearly distorted, time-periodic sound wave, is generalized slightly and applied to nonlinear magnetohydrodynamic waves. Two examples are considered. The first, a longitudinal wave propagating across a magnetic field, is closely analogous to an ordinary sound wave. The second example is a nonlinear generalization of a plane-polarized Alfven wave it is shown that odd overtones develop in the transverse component of the magnetic field. Author
