The purpose of this program is to develop and prove out a theoretical method for accurately predicting the critical buckling strength of externally pressurized cylinders made from orthotropic materials and to find the optimum construction of filament reinforced plastic FRP cylinders under such loading. Results of buckling and jig discontinuity analyses of test cylinder configurations are presented. Studies were performed on effects of shear rigidity and thickness on the bending and buckling of thick FRP rings to gain an insight into possible effects on buckling of thick FRP cylinders. Fabrication of test cylinders was started and a description of fabrication methods is included. Author
