Design work was completed on the preform vessles which will be cryogenically stretched to produce the final sub-scale cases. The computer program, utilizing the equations for large plastic deformation of thin shells of revolution, was used extensively in this design. The preform vessels utilize dog-bone type closures to produce the proper contours after stretching. Hydroformed parts are used for the dog-bone closures in the sub-scale vessels, and procurement of these parts was completed. All other details for the preform vessels were also completed, and final welding was initiated. Design of a fixture to mechanically expand the nozzle end joint at -320 F was completed. The fixture will work a 301 stainless steel ring in a liquid-nitrogen bath in such a way as to provide adequate strength for use as the nozzle connection joint. Author
