Abstract:

The motion of a centrifuge equipped satellite about its center of mass has been investigated subject to various initial conditions. The motion was described in terms of the satellite body and space cone parameters. The effects of the gravity-gradient torques on a sun-oriented satellite and attitude stabilization were also examined. The estimates of the precession angles due to the cyclic and secular gravitygradient torques were computed for a dynamically symmetric satellite. Centrifuge spin requirements for attitude stabilization normal to the local vertical were also derived for the satellite investigated. Author
