Abstract:
The purpose of the research on Solid State Amplifier Techniques was to develop a 2-Gc solid state receiver front end which would have a 20 per cent fixed tuned low noise preamplifier and a tunable mixer - LO-IF combination. The system noise figure objective was 3 db while the overall receiver gain was 30 to 40 db. The final receiver, which contained two cascaded tunnel diode amplifiers integrally mounted in a five port circulator, a crystal mixer, a tunnel diode local oscillator, a dual conversion IF amplifier, and regulated power supplies measured 6 by 6 by 2 inches and weighed 5.5 pounds. The pertinent characteristics for this receiver were 3.2 db system noise figure, 40 db gain and 20 per cent RF bandwidth. Author
