Abstract:

Research was continued on a study of the physi cal processes which govern the ignition, by rapid compression, of hydraulic fluids. The com bustion tests on MIL 2190 TEP was completed. The variation between the different oils was found to be small and the present results compare quite favorably with earlier tests conducted in this program. The analysis for the maximum gas tem perature was programmed for the IBM 7074 com puter. Recalculations were preformed for the 38, 78 and 1-12 inch I.D. pipes. These re calculated results were found to be somewhat dif ferent from the previous hand calculated results at higher pressure rise rates and final pressures. Tests were started to measure maximum gas tem peratures for a variety of operating conditions. The analysis for elasticity effects in the liquid charging process was completed.
