Abstract:

An experimental investigation was made of the downstream influence of mass transfer on an exisymmetric nozzle in turbulent flow. The coolant gases helium and nitrogen were injected at various rates through a porous region upstream of the throat of the nozzle. The experimental heat transfer to the nozzle surface is presented as a function of the mass transfer for various stations along the impermeable region of the nozzle. An approximate method for predicting the influence of the mass injection on the heat transfer was developed. This method agrees reasonably well with the experimental data for stations sufficiently downstream of the porous region. Author
