Abstract:

The partial differential equation yuxuyy 0 is solved in a vertical strip. The method is first to solve the equation in the upper and lower halves of the strip. By matching u and uy across the x-axis a singular integral equation for uxx,0 is obtained. This is converted into an equation with Cauchy kernel whose solutions are known explicitly.
