Abstract:

Some of the rigorous aspects of invariant imbedding are discussed existence and uniqueness of solution, asymptotic behavior over space and time, stability, computational stability, applications to classical boundary-value theory, and so on. An important conservation property, obvious on physical grounds, is used in establishing the existence of the solution of a matrix Riccati equation without recourse to the associated linear differential equation, and thus with out any appeal to spectral theory.
