Abstract:

A prefabricated, panelized, 16- by 28-foot structure was designed and built for the U. S. Air Force by the Naval Civil Engineering Labora tory. The building, made of steel-faced honey combed-core panels with plywood edges, was de signed for use in the DEW System in the Arctic. The prototype was tested under a variety of controlled climatic conditions, including wind, rain, and snow. Tests included erection, heat loss, structural, and weathertightness, and packaging studies. The building has a low co efficient of heat transmission and can withstand a 125-mph wind load, a 100-psf snow load, and racking. Author
